RAVENNA
Famous city of art and Byzantine culture, only 8 km. from the campsite, Ravenna offers wonderful mosaics and artistic treasures, famous all over the world. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
It can be reached by bus or by bike, through the cycle-path that connects Marina di Ravenna to the city centre.

A city unique in the world: Capital city of the Western Empire, Ravenna has played a leading role in European history. In its splendid basilicas and baptisteries it has preserved the richest patrimony of ancient mosaics of the 5th and 6th Centuries after C.

The magnificence of that period has left in Ravenna a wonderful inheritance declared by Unesco as a "Patrimony of Umanity".

There are not just mosaics: one has to visit the Basilica of S. Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Arian Baptistery, S. Apollinare Nuovo, the Mausoleum of Teodorico, Dante’s Tomb, Domus of the stone Carpets, St. Nicolò’s church, the Basilica of S. Apollinare in Classe, the Neonian Baptistery, the Archiepiscopal Chapel etc..

To the historical and artistic richness corresponds a cultural vivacity of high level and international importance.
A live, welcoming and hospitable city…

There are many attractions every summer night. "Mosaico di notte": on Friday night, Ravenna opens its churches and museums and organizes free guided tours. It draws crowds of people with shops open until late in the night , coupled with restaurants, pubs and bars.

"Ravenna bella di sera": every night exhibitions, events and concerts located in the most suggestive parts of the centre. "Ravenna Festival", one of the most famous international reviews of lyric poetry and symphonic music.

And also one mustn’t forget the jazz festival in July, the open-air cinema, organ concerts and more!

Besides its artistic magnificence, Ravenna is also marked by gastronomical traditions with meals typical of the country (hand-made pasta such as tagliatelle and cappelletti or the typical piadina) and with some high-quality local wines (Sangiovese, Pagadébit, Trebbiano, Albana and Cagnina).

Ravenna: a 360° city : city of art, culture, traditions, sea and much much more….
